1989 (Taylor’s Version) Review

Swift released 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on Oct. 27. She is recreating her old albums that Scooter Braun stole from her and is adding new songs “from the vault”, which are songs she did not release with the original album.
All of the songs that were on the previous album sound pretty much the same, except that her voice sounds so much more mature. Growing up listening to Taylor Swift and hearing her voice change with age makes me feel like we are growing up together.
Her voice, however, during the talking parts of the song sounds autotuned. This is not a dealbreaker, but I do not love how it sounds.
My favorite vault track is “Now That We Don’t Talk”. The way her voice sounds at the beginning of the song is like a mad whisper that scratches a part of my brain. The song is about not recognizing who someone is on the inside since you don’t talk anymore.
I love the lyrics “I cannot be your friend so I pay the price of what I lost” and “The only way back to my dignity was to turn into a shrouded mystery.” I really feel this song in my soul because I have a person who comes to mind when I listen to it, and I think everyone else probably does too.
My second favorite song is “Is it Over Now?” This song is apparently about her ex-boyfriend, Harry Styles. I really like the style of this song. My favorite lyric is “You search in every model’s bed for something greater, baby.” I think a lot of people can relate to this line because hookup culture is prevalent in our generation. Harry Styles’ fans are going wild over this song.
My third favorite song is “Suburban Legend”. I think this song is about loving someone who you know can’t continue to be with. I think people who break up with their significant other right before college would probably LOVE this song. My favorite lyric is “I broke my own heart ‘cause you were too polite to do it.” Clearly Miss Swift had to end things with this person because they loved her too much to do it.
My fourth favorite song is “Say Don’t Go.” I think this song is about not being able to leave someone because you love them so much. The only way you could break up is if they leave you. I love the line “And I’m yours, but you’re not mine.” If you are in a one sided relationship, this is the song for you.
My fifth favorite vault track is “Slut!”.Despite the vulgar title, this song is a surprisingly beautiful love song. I love the line “In a world of boys, he’s a gentleman.” This line is so sweet and shows her care for the man in the song.
Taylor Swift has done it again. She wrote lyrics that speak to the soul. I would rate this album an 8/10. I absolutely loved every single song from the vault. In my opinion anyone who doesn’t like Taylor Swift just does not understand the lyrics.
