With an 8-1 record, the Mustangs go into week two of the playoffs ready to face Goddard, who they defeated 35-28 two weeks ago.
Last week Central defeated Topeka West 68-22. The lopsided score resulted in a running clock the second half of the game.
“They weren’t the toughest opponent we faced all year,” junior quarterback Griffin Hall said, “but we still played to our level and didn’t play down to theirs.”
The Central football team is the two seed in 5A West and ranked 11th overall.
“I think our work and wins set us up nicely for the playoffs and getting the two seed pretty early in the season helps,” Hall said.
In week seven, the Stangs faced their biggest competition yet, the Andover Trojans, losing 48-21.

“We knew going into the game they were gonna be a tough opponent, and try to come out and be physical,” Hall said. “Playing the game you could tell we both would be successful, but we came up short of that and didn’t play to our best ability.”
After the loss, the team came back in week eight against the Goddard Lions, who they face tomorrow night. During their first match up there were weather related errors the team is hoping to avoid.
“A couple of the balls could have been placed better, it was a misty night so the ball was wet and harder to catch,” Hall said.
The Mustangs are prepared to come back and play Goddard at a higher level than the first face off, Hall said.
“We’re gonna take it up a notch in the playoffs but still continue to practice and not change too much, just add more intensity each week,” Hall said.
