About 100 Central students walked out of school on March 4 following W6 in protest of the recent events regarding ICE.
Junior Jaylin Brown said that the protest does not stem from anger, but is focused on opposing the way that ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is operating.
“It’s supposed to be an ICE awareness protest,” Brown said. “It’s not meant to spread hate, it’s just meant to spread awareness.”

Freshman Emmelyn Woody said that she does not think that the protest will make an impact worth getting a cut from school. Students who walked out were given an unexcused absence for the rest of the day.
“It’s going to cause a stir,” Woody said. “It might raise awareness, but I just don’t think that it’s gonna actually do anything.”
Woody does not support the walkout’s cause but does believe that a change in how ICE operates would be beneficial.
“If people aren’t coming here legally, then they shouldn’t be allowed to stay,” Woody said. “I think there should be better systems in place to get citizenship.”
Junior Aaron Prough said his connection to the protest is personal.
“I have neighbors, I have friends, I have so many people that you know are sons of immigrants, daughters of immigrants,” Prough said. “I have strong relations with those people, and I care deeply for them.”
