Scandalous, honest and genuine.
From her track “Bloodonmyhands,” to “Purple Lace Bra” Tate McRae doesn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on scandal. Exposing the truth about how it feels when the world won’t stop sexualizing you. The world didn’t know what to expect after she dropped this album.
This wild jump start of a new era for McRae has her first love song “2 hands” where she confronts herself lyrically:
I just want your two hands on me
At all times, baby
If you let go (I want your two hands)
Better put ’em right back fast
Whilst falling in love McRae explores wanting physical affection from someone. We see a lot of this on the album with other songs like “I Know Love,” “Miss Possessive” and “Dear God.”
The album opener “Miss Possessive” starts with a spoken word from actress Sydney Sweeney. Dripping with attitude, she threateningly warns, “No, seriously, get your hands off my man.”
As the title “Miss Possessive” hints, the song deals with that jealous feeling of not wanting your lover to be with anyone else.
The lead single “It’s OK I’m OK” was my favorite song before the entire album dropped. It showed through the music video how to be independent, and not rely on a man.
The song spent 22 weeks on Billboard Hot 100.
“Purple Lace Bra” sounds like “Diet Pepsi” by Addison Rae. McRae on the other hand gets a little more personal with her lyrics:
I’m-I’m losin’ my mind
’cause giving you head’s the only time
you think I got depth
My favorite track off of this album is “Nostalgia.” This track talks about McRae’s parents regrets of keeping their big life dreams locked up in the back of the closet, never seeing the light of day. But in the end it was all for her, so Tate could achieve her dreams.
I would give this album an 8/10. Her previous work “Think Later” definitely has more compelling songs, making me want to return to them more.
McRae put a lot of hard work into this project and despite it originally getting leaked, leading her to changing up tracks last minute, she was still able to catch my attention and I will definitely be coming back for her next era.
