Sabrina Carpenter deserves to win Best New Artist at this year’s Grammys. Yes, she does have five other albums, but “Short n’ Sweet” debuted at number one for three weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, was the second-longest running number one album of 2024, and earned over 57 million first-day streams on the global Spotify chart. All of this shows her breakthrough in the music industry, which is what the Grammys base this category on.
The Grammys consist of 94 categories, let’s talk about four – Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. These being some of the main categories is very important as these are usually the categories to have the most fight and effort put into them. It’s everyone’s dream to win these awards if you work in the music industry. Winning these categories can show your success as an artist, their “I have made it” moment.
For the first category – Album of the Year – some of the nominations are Short n’ Sweet – by Sabrina Carpenter, BRAT – by Charli xcx, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT – by Billie Eilish, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess – by Chappell Roan, and THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT – Taylor Swift. The Album of the Year should go to Billie Eilish – HIT ME HARD AND SOFT because it has good songwriting, production, performance, and technical proficiency across all tracks, which is what the Album of the Year is based upon.
The second category being – Record of the Year – with some of the nominees of “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” – Beyoncé, “Espresso” – Sabrina Carpenter, “360” – Charli xcx, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” – Billie Eilish, “Good Luck, Babe!” – Chappell Roan, and “Fortnight” – Taylor Swift Featuring Post Malone. The person who I think should win Record of the Year is Beyoncé – “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” as it gives the best of both worlds when it comes to performance and production which is overall what Record of the Year is based upon. But I think “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter will win as she has already won Song of the Year at the VMAs.
For the third category – Song Of The Year – the nominations are “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”, “Die With A Smile”, “Fortnight”, “Good Luck, Babe!”, “Not Like Us”, “Please Please Please”, and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”. The winner of this category is based on a song’s overall theme and not vocal capability. So, based on that, “Die With A Smile” should win this category, because it gives the feeling needed to connect a song with the world and it has two of the highest ranking Verified Artists’ on Spotify currently performing this song with Bruno Mars at first and Lady Gaga at third.
As I said above Sabrina Carpenter deserves the fourth and final category – Best New Artist – even if she is not considered a new artist she has had the best year out of all these people and has managed to go from a low in her career to a high, all within a year. Her highest competition being Chappell Roan and maybe Benson Boone sets the table for an interesting night.
Last year’s Grammys did not do justice for some artists so, let’s hope it’s different this year.
I hope to see Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga win as they truly deserve it after all the hard work they put in vocally and performance-wise.
