“I’ve been a nurse since 2014, and I got my bachelors degree from KU. I was the school nurse at Great Bend High School,” Chesney has experience in the ER/ICU and the medical surgical unit.

“I originally wanted to be a teacher, because I enjoyed working with kids and my grandpa was a teacher,” Chesney wanted to be a teacher but while attending Bethany College, she was swayed to pursue the opportunities in the medical field. Nursing was her calling in order to work with all age groups and still help people the way she wanted.

“Mrs. Warhurst was the nurse here before and she was here for 13 years, so I knew I had big shoes to fill,” She exclaims how much paper work there is compared to her previous school Nursing position.

“The biggest challenge in the transition is learning the different laws. School nurses actually have special privileges compared to a hospital nurse,” Learning these new job duties and practices she is required to follow has proven very challenging.

“On the day to day, the craziest thing is when there are 4 kids sitting and waiting while I’m helping another student, my office is really packed sometimes,” acclimating to this new position has proved very challenging for Chesney, but she is completely satisfied.
