Central tennis players say cracking open a new tennis can and taking a swing at a new season is one of their favorite high school experiences. Freshman Ella Payne has been playing tennis since she was young and is ready to take on high school tennis.

“I´ve played tennis for so long that it feels almost natural and very enjoyable to play every day,¨ Payne states.

Payne claims that it has been a pretty successful season so far and hopes that it continues to be.

“So far, the varsity has placed in almost every tournament we’ve been in.” she says.

Tennis players normally have practice every day. They practice for about an hour and spend most of their time doing warm-ups and scrimmaging.

Junior Camryn Phelps states that she has played at Central since Freshman year as well as at  Lakewood Middle School.

“Practices are pretty fun. We have this thing called ‘fun Fridays’. Basically, we just eat a lot of food and then scrimmage,” Phelps said.

Phelps is a  year round off-season player and undoubtedly can say she always looks forward to tennis season at Central. Phelps recommends joining the CHS tennis team because the car rides are always fun and she always enjoys hanging out with her teammates.

“I already know that many of my teammates will definitely make it to state” she says. Phelps also hopes to make it to state this year, as well as the girls she predicts to.

“It’s a pretty short season” says Phelps. Tennis season ends on October 14th for Central High players.

Payne and Phelps both plan on continuing to play for Central while

working towards going to state individually and having an overall excellent season.

There is a tennis meet Thursday, September 27 at home.
