“I always wanted to work with high schoolers so on the first day of being a teacher at Central I was so excited and so pumped and ready to go interact with the kids and see what amazing things they come up with because a lot of them are creative.

Before becoming a teacher I was mainly set on having a career in the artistic field like working in a theater full time because of my theater teacher who was like a second dad to me so I realized I wanted to be just like him by showing people how fun art can be like what he did for me but becoming a speech, debate and forensics teacher I get to combine helping people and art together.

Being a teacher was a little different from what I expected because there’s a lot more prep work than I anticipated.

In the beginning it was hard for me because I think I had a higher aspiration than what my student’s wanted to put in which was frustrating but it’s slowly getting better and I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to have more of a game plan so every minute of class was used well.

My struggle of teaching is some of my student’s apathy towards my class which is a daily thing I have to combat. I understand why some students don’t put in forth the effort or feel jazzed about the content I am teaching because this is a required course they need to complete in order to graduate but that’s not going to stop me from accomplishing my number one goal which is to make sure each one of my students know how much I care about them and to show them how valuable this class is.”
