It was an exciting and nerve racking Monday for Central High’s marching band when they were heading to Fort Hay’s University for their annual contest they had been anticipating for.

The day was full of excitement and anxiety for freshman Isabella Rubino, ” Before contest everyone was a little nervous. Some stuff had to be changed at the last minute which threw people off but since I was surrounded by my friends that helped ease my nerves.” Rubino also stated, ” The marching band had been preparing for this since summer! We had to attend a two week band camp where we learned the music and drills.”

On the other hand junior Johnathan Brooks emotions were at in all time high but they gradually lowered as the day went, ” Before the contest I was excited but after I was highly disappointed due to our bands performance.”

When asked why the band didn’t perform well Brooks stated ” I’m not sure why others weren’t calm. Anxiety and focus took a key roll in why we didn’t do our best at contest and why we got a 4.2 rating. It was also frustrating when people weren’t doing their jobs.”

Although the contest is done they have many new and exiting things in store for the future, ” Band is now going to turn into a concert band and a pep band. We will be playing at the basketball games and we are going to have a winter concert in a couple of months! ” Rubino explained. Brooks also mentioned , ” We are going to have an awesome basketball season for band! ”
