Soccer team falls to South 1-0

South came out victorious against Central in the soccer game on Wednesday, October 5th. The Cougars scored off of a corner kick in the second minute of the game, from then on, both teams battled hard. Central played a solid defensive game, but were unable to put any of their 5 shots, 4 on frame, in the back of the net.

“We need to have the same intensity for all 80 minutes, rather than only 10 minutes. Defensively, we played sound for most of the game. South just capitalized on our one big mistake.” Said Junior Keaton Beach, the goalie. Beach had multiple good saves. With Souths 4 on frame shots, Beach was able to save 3, including a diving save.

The Mustangs had great student support. The amount of students from Central there to support the soccer team was outstanding, and overpowered the size of South’s student section. “I feel like we played great other than a few costly mistakes. It was a great experience playing with all the fans there, especially with the size of the student section we had. It was cool” said sophomore Blake Olmsted.

“We had some good moments in the second half where we shut down their key players and prevented them from creating scoring opportunities.” Said sophomore defender Brett Norris.

The boys soccer team was able to redeem themselves the following game, with a 4-1 win over Derby. Their season is not over, as they have 4 more games to improve their record and solidify a high ranking in the run for regionals.
